Critical Work

Simon Diamond

The work that changes a person at the core, done in the open.

My open journal with a brass pen
My physical journal is my treasure.

I see three ways.

One, YOU are critical work. You are a vessel, a wonder, a miracle, a piece of astonishing beauty. You are the legacy of your bloodline that Earth created. You are critically important to this planet.

Two, YOU are doing the critical work on YOU. Everyone is doing this work, if you want to or not. You live every day hungry for something to change, something to evolve, to feel something, to grow.

Three, YOU are creating critical work, outwardly. For society, for the improvement of life. You are conscious of the planet and every living and non-living being on it. Everything you do is a mirror of your own critical work.

One YOU are critical work Two YOU are doing the critical work, on YOU Three YOU are creating critical work, outwardly Critical Work the core, the heart
Critical Work unites all three. The core is the heart.

A first writing, for you

A page from my journal
Writing by my hand, by me.

It is critical to be critical.

Some of you are rightfully critical to consider the possibility that this article is AI slop, I will not touch AI for writing from my heart.

I am writing about Critical Work. I came to realise this after waking up for a lucid dream. I am aware that we are born as wonders, the statistical chance of us being here is so close to 0, one would consider it 0 (factually, it is actually 1 in 400,000,000,000,000,000), and yet you are here. This is a lower chance than winning any lottery in the world. I am aware of the work we do on ourselves, personal development, therapy, becoming parents, progressing in life, wanting to learn more, deep work, however we call it. I am aware of the work we do, our jobs, our creations, our calling, our presence expressed; there are many shapes and colours. A lot of times we single out each of these components, and it is even rarer to live them intentionally, in unity. To live them in alignment, in awareness. In the current world we live in, it has become more and more important to understand how critical our privilege of existing in this world is, how important it is to be brave enough to attempt to do Critical Work, which for me are all three in unison. And then living it, being in it. We are all made from one planet; we are all equal wonders of creation. Empathy connects us. Allow me to dive deeper.

One, YOU are critical work.

You are a vessel, a wonder, a miracle, a piece of astonishing beauty. You are the legacy of your bloodline that Earth created. You are a soul living a human experience. You are the critical work that our mother earth and father sky has gifted to this planet. You are that critical work, the vessel that is shaping itself through nature, society, philosophy, spirituality. Thank you. I am so grateful for you. You are critically important for this planet. When I remembered that I was once a crying baby that only knew to trust, I found a path to remember my faith.

Intentionality. As humanity is moving into a new world, it is more critical than ever to remember this. Everyone shall find the first spark within; from there, an infinite journey will lead and find our own understanding of abundance and connection.

Two, YOU are doing the critical work on YOU.

Everyone is doing this work, if you want to or not. You live every day hungry for something to change, something to evolve, to feel something, to grow. It is our nature; as adults - we just forget. I recognise that the main aspect of my definition of critical work for this moment and purpose of my writings is - the critical work we do on ourselves - to be able to do the critical work out there. My coaches and teachers have called it The Sacred Work, or simply The Work. Personally, I have come to the conclusion that in this day and age it's become critical for the turning point of humanity and the planet to do such work. It has become critical work. It is critical because it's urgent; it's critical because it requires looking at our own worst enemy, our own shadow, our inside - you are required to take a critical look at YOU. If I cannot even handle the criticism of my bosses or friends, how in the world will I handle it from me? It is absolutely critical to challenge my thinking, my beliefs, my conditioning. That is what doing Critical Work means to me. This is the reason I will not take any criticism personally; rather, I am inviting it. Perhaps if you are being as critical as you can on me, you can learn to apply that in your own path and definition of critical work.

Intentionality. There are many ways to do the critical work on ourselves. From books, to friends, to therapists, to coaches, to group work like AA or gender specific work like Masculinity X, which I am enjoying myself (there are women-specific working groups as well). I personally work as a coach and work with my clients to deeply transform their core; my style opens the heart and transmutes (alchemically changes) the core being to remember who we truly are. Please do reach out to learn more.

Three, YOU are creating critical work, outwardly.

You are doing work for society, for the improvement of life. You are supporting other humans to grow and to strive to become their own best version of themselves, every day, whether you want to or not. You are conscious of the planet and every living and non-living being on it. You may even be conscious of the beings outside this planet. That is critical work. You are doing critical work with anything you do, every day you wake up. Everything you do is a mirror of your own critical work. I am personally finally realising this. It is invigorating, it is scary, it is exciting.

Intentionality. The first step is recognising and owning our contribution to this world; it can be any job, it can be parenthood, it can be stepping into our true purpose and alignment. A second step is being brave and doing this with real contribution and intention in mind.

The core

Critical Work truly unites One, Two and Three. The Critical Work happens at the core, the heart. It happens at the unity, not the singular success within one of the three.

It is my mission to step into the Critical Work fully and to find anyone who is brave enough to live the path of Critical Work, meet them in person and learn from them for all of us. Critical Work is difficult; it comes at a high price, and with an even higher reward. I dare you to find out for yourself.

I am using this place to speak about the critical work I am doing on myself. I will share critical observations. I will speak about the critical work I am supporting others with when I am wearing my coaching hat. I will show the outward-facing creations I am working on. I will display and celebrate critical work of all of YOU. In each of the above definitions: One, Two and Three.

Thank you for YOUR path of Critical Work. I am deeply grateful for you.

Haikus

My soul having a human experience.

Warmth against my chest The newborn's head smells wonderful The time runs slowly
Walking to drop off Two beautiful light children Green leaves and sunshine
Rufus in da house Be Strobe lights matrix raving Darkness captures us
An absolute tune It is fire on the roof Am losing my mind
Der Geschmack der Heimat Sonnenstrahlen im Gesicht Wärme im Herzen
The life that we live That leaves us stuck in a loop Iron can turn Gold
Heat breaking the day A breath the only saviour Crying child, love me

Jumping the mirror

A page from my journal
My handwriting is a creative process in itself.

I am focusing on relaxing my anus and am taking a deep breath that is starting from my root chakra all the way into my crown. I release the breath slowly and consciously feel my forehead, my throat, my heart, my solar plexus, my belly button and again my root.

I am making the decision to complete my writings before I decide on a title.

It has been a journey to get here, to sit down and write. I have decided the man I want to be overcomes resistance and shows himself and his brothers that he can do what he said he would do. My resistance is related to my being. It is related to fear. It is related to a part of me that whispers „I am inferior“, „they are all better“, „I cannot achieve anything in writing and creating, so why even bother starting?“.

I close my eyes and breathe deeply. I can feel my chest moving and the air in my lungs and belly expanding and deflating. The music in my ears is making my hip bounce in a circular motion on my chair. It is one of those single leg chairs sitting on a half ball, as well as having a half ball as a seat. It is good for my back.

The man I want to be is the man that overcomes his fears. That becomes fully himself. I do not hide behind a mask anymore. Social, family, friends, so many masks are demanded of us, too many mirrors. This morning on my run I was listening to the first chapter of The Four Agreements and was reminded that everyone I see is a mirror of myself, as I am the one seeing him or her and no one else. I do not need to react to my own mirrors.

I have wanted to start writing since the beginning of 2026. It is May now. On reflection, I was writing. I was hand writing in my Life journal, which I finished in March for Spring Equinox. It is Walpurgis soon. The fire to ignite. Perhaps this is why I am now getting started to truly step into the man I am becoming. My brothers helped me get here. I have been seen. Accountability becomes stronger when the commitment is made to a group of men. I have committed to stepping into full integrity. This means pushing beyond my resistance. It means to start doing all the little things I have so carefully prepared over the last 6 months. Idea lists, to do lists, writing ideas, research ideas, business ideas, life architecture, sabbatical planning. It is time to clean and implement. Keep only the Hell Yes and remove all the No. Perhaps this is what spring clean truly is.

My fourth day of fasting preparation gave me my energy back. After 4 days of no sugar, alcohol, processed food or non-vegan food I have been for a strong run again, my head ache is gone. My body and mind are preparing for what is to come from Sunday onwards. Water fasting and clarity in the physical and mental cleanse.

The man I am becoming does neither behave inferior nor superior to others. The man I am becoming knows that everyone else is simply a mirror of himself. Eight men holding me are 8 versions of myself showing me that I am truly capable and seen by myself. It shows me that I am already who I am becoming, my mind is just hiding the part of me at the moment. The part that is most dominant right now is the warm and comfortable one, the one that is afraid to face challenge and fear, the one that by all means saves his sun lounger every morning on the beach to make sure he gets his spot. The part that is afraid to jump. Today I am jumping. I am falling into the known unknown. I am jumping. I am falling. I am jumping. I am falling. I am letting go.

I am the man who can transmute his fears and the voices in his head, into the version of myself that I want. Just like I am the one that has created these in the first place. I can decide to be fearful or brave, to be afraid or courageous.

Who would I be if I stayed who I was before I jumped? Who would that person be in 10 years from now? What would happen to me in that time? I know my answer. Now I have jumped, it does not matter anymore.

About

I am Simon Diamond. You are done with surface-level change, ready for the kind that actually rearranges who you are.

I call it transmutation: not managing behaviour, but altering the material underneath it. Not forming tools from iron, but iron into gold.

This site is where I do that work in the open. My own transmutation. Observations from my own path. Coaching experiences. Celebrations of people transmuting. All of it is offered as Critical Work, and all of it is open to your criticism.

Be critical with me.

Coaching enquiries and feedback welcome, in any form.
